Douglas B Miles Agency Inc - Dundee Part-Time Ancient Astronaut Theorist: Preemptively covering homeowners insurance before purchasing a house in the area, I considered a local insurance agency instead of using a national change for our insurance. We also intended to use Douglas B Miles Agency for our auto insurance.
Initially, they were nice enough over the phone. We even made a few trips to the office ahead of our closing date to see our options for combined coverage and what coverage we could add to the house. One employee gave us a list of options and let us know when we were ready to close on the house to come back, and we would be all set.
A week before our closing date, the real estate agent let us know it was time to purchase the insurance for the house, so we stopped into Douglas B Miles Agency to set up the contract and pay for the first year of homeowners insurance. However, the employee sitting at her desk smugly told us we couldnt insure something we didnt own. What? After almost a month of going back and forth and letting them know our plans, the "agent" told us bluntly that "until we purchased the house, Douglas B Miles could NOT provide insurance for us." But she was too smug by saying they "cant insure something that we didnt own."
I immediately made a call to the national agency, and they issued our homeowners insurance BEFORE we closed the house. It is the same for purchasing a NEW CAR. You dont own the car UNTIL you have insurance to cover it.
So, were NOT using a local insurance agency, which is a pity because I believe in keeping the money for the local economy. Instead, we stayed with the national insurance agency, and they even gave us better coverage for the house for less money.
Dont waste your time or money with Douglas B. Miles. Either they have employees who dont understand the business, or their "agents" are too lazy to keep up with the changing times. They also needed accreditation with Allstate, which explains how the local agency runs its business model into the ground.
