1 /5 Alan Weber: The glowing reviews on here are due to the wonderful services of Padgetts predecessor. Unfortunately, Cris retired and her successor shames her legacy. I submitted my tax information at the end of January, with detailed explanations of everything, and was told it would be done within a couple of weeks.
Over a month went by with no word. I called the receptionist, who said it was being worked on and wed hear from them by the end of the week. Another three weeks went by and nothing. I called again. The person I spoke to said he had no idea who told me that. But since it had taken so long he would be sure it was expedited.
When I finally got the statement, I was surprised, both by what seemed like a rushed job and an inflated charge. When I questioned why I had gotten money back last year and had to pay this year, I was told the accountant would take another look. Oh, she found a deduction she had missed. But, still, it didnt seem like some of the possible deductions that Cris had explored had been considered. So the accountant told me we could try one. Im not sure she was wrong about the discrepancy between this years and last years numbers, but it took two and a half months and several negotiations.
Then I was sent the e-form to sign. There was nowhere for my wife to sign, and, unlike last year, she wasnt sent anything. When I called, I was told it was only an internal document and nothing to be concerned about. But the very thing I was sent said that it was missing my wifes signature. We felt that we had to go to the office today to make sure we couldnt get in any trouble for not having two signatures. The explanation we were given left some concerns about their competence.
Given the poor communication, the questions about their diligence and competence, and the dramatic drop-down from the wonderful business that they had purchased, I would not recommend Padgett, and suggest you refer to the reviews of Padgett themselves and not those of Taxes R Us and Cris Hendrick.
