1 /5 Truth Talker: I love, love, love this place—or at least I used to. Mahony’s was one of my go-to spots. I’m here almost daily, I bring family and friends, and I spend money without hesitation because I believed in the experience… until it completely fell apart.
Over several recent visits, the service has been flat-out unacceptable. The staff was passing out a special dish to the entire establishment—moving table to table, offering it randomly. Not once, not twice, but three times, the same server (the Black guy with braids) walked directly past us like we didn’t exist. No eye contact. No acknowledgment. Nothing.
I don’t know if it was personal, bias, or just pure carelessness—but it felt targeted, and it was embarrassing. When you’re a regular who consistently supports a business, being treated as invisible is infuriating. It makes you question whether loyalty means anything at all here.
And let’s be clear: the bartenders are a major part of the problem. The bar service has gone downhill to the point where it’s dragging the entire place with it. Attitude, lack of awareness, zero hospitality—it’s all there. They need to be replaced, because if nothing changes behind that bar, this place will continue to suffer and only get worse. Period.
No guest should ever be made to feel ignored—especially not someone who’s been here as often as I have. Between today and multiple visits over the past week, it’s been a complete bust.
Yes, the atmosphere used to be great, but atmosphere doesn’t excuse consistently shitty service. At this point, I wouldn’t make the trip unless you’re looking for a cheap drink paired with frustration.
There are better options nearby. Shadows on the Hudson isn’t far, Derby delivers a stronger overall experience, and Shatzys may be pricier and smaller—but at least you leave feeling respected, welcomed, and genuinely taken care of.
This place had something special. Right now, it’s wasting it. Fix the bar staff—or watch it continue to decline.
