1 /5 William Pagano: At one time I enjoyed stopping at Popeyes to enjoy some chicken tenders w/hot sauce, dirty rice/beans and rice, and coleslaw. No more, at least not at this Popeye’s.
I have never had such a poor experience. First I wanted what I fondly recalled above, but the menu board showed an ungainly price, (See pic.). Three piece combo for $15.99! Worse the attendant told me all the prices had been increased, but hadn’t gotten around to updating the signs. So I ordered a chicken sandwich combo at 12.99. Seemingly a better value. With sides of beans and rice, and coleslaw (they don’t have dirty rice anymore).
But the worst of it was the food. Absolutely horrid. The chicken itself was moist and tender but the fry coating was a combination of cornflakes and cornmeal laid on thick. The bun could have been good except it was black scorched on a flat top and tasted it. There was a small squirt of mayo(?) and two slices of pickle. No lettuce or tomato like Wendy’s nor did they asked if I wanted any.
The coleslaw was dry chopped cabbage with very little mayonnaise and no seasoning. Worse my fondly remembered beans and rice, was brown paste and tasteless rice, no seasoning.
So I threw out the bun, picked off the chicken coating, only tasted the coleslaw and beans and rice, for a total bill of $14.03. Not exactly a value meal. (See pic of Wendy’s drive through menu to compare.)
Now for my drive thru Popeye’s eating companions, there weren’t any. But directly across the highway the Wendy’s drive thru lined them up (see pic), and this is at 1:55 in the afternoon, (see pic).
I Just can’t see this store hanging in there. By the way, the Schenectady, Albany St Store has always been good.
