2 /5 Destinee Jones: I love the food here. It’s one of my favorite places to eat. But the service tells a very different story. If you’re Black, the waitresses and bartenders are noticeably less warm, friendly, or attentive than they are with others. This isn’t based on one bad night. I’ve been here several times, and it has happened repeatedly.
Most recently, I came in with my son after school to order takeout. I asked the waitress how long it would take, and she said 15 to 20 minutes. I placed my order and set an alarm for 25 minutes. When the food still wasn’t ready, I sat at a table and tried to make eye contact with her, but she avoided me. I had to walk toward the back of the restaurant to ask about the order. Instead of a friendly “let me check on that for you,” she said, “the order wasn’t placed that long ago.”
I then asked to speak with a manager and was told one wasn’t there. I was brushed off and met with attitude instead of receiving decent customer service. Every time I’ve come here, the women working have been rude or dismissive, and I’ve heard the same experiences from other friends of color.
It’s disappointing, especially in a community where I live, pay taxes, and bring my child. I won’t frequent this place as much because of the service, even though their food is delicious. That truly saddens me.
