Winona Gumshoe: We visited on Pentecost sunday...the music was pretty good especially for a more traditional style of church... Speaking as a spirit filled believer I am used to a little bit more engagement during the worship. The sermon was my main issue. First, the good. They did read the entire passage of scripture associated with the time of Pentecost before the sermon... I very much appreciate and value seeing the actual word of God being used in churches since this is increasingly rare and that is kinda what its supposed to be all about. However then the pastor stood up and preached a four point sermon based on a book he read about the holy spirit rather than teaching a biblically based sermon. And the entire thing was incredibly repetitive and entirely about repentance and almost to the point of shaming. I also very much like to see a message that speaks on repentance since its absolutely vital to the receiving of Gods grace and forgiveness...however the entire point of the Holy spirit and repentance is for the sake of freedom; God gives us conviction of sins so we will turn from them and as soon as we do, grace is poured out... There wasnt much discussion on grace. They lead everyone through multiple times of intense repentance to such a degree someone commented on whether they thought we had committed sins in the past five minutes since the last time... Valid point. They did a time of prayer up front for people to come and surrender or repent but there was absolute silence and it was really awkward...imagine if in getting freedom you would cry and break the silence while standing in front of everyone! More shame for that Id imagine. There should have been some quiet music at least during that period to make it more natural. My biggest issue though was the lack of understanding of the Holy spirit and the complete lack of biblically based teaching. The entire reason I chose to check out a more traditional church was because I really want to find solid biblical preaching and generally a Bible/Baptist based church has that...I was very disappointed to find another pastor who preached fluff and cool sounding points without the Word...and it was a very poor teaching on the subject.

Door To Hope Church - Canandaigua
Richard Toulson: I’ve been attending Door to Hope Church for nearly seven years and can honestly say that Pastor Barry is the best pastor I have had in my 50 years of being a Christian. He really cares about the people God has given him responsibility for. He calls and visits the members of the church when they need it, and sometimes takes some out to dinner just to get to know them better. He is a man of God who bases his life around the Scriptures. He and his wife Anita have been a real blessing to me and my wife since we joined the church in 2017. The church is not large, about 35 – 50 people, which makes it a very friendly body. Most everyone knows most everyone else, as this is encouraged by a monthly meal at the church. Before and after the service, there are always snacks and beverages where people fellowship together. In addition, there is a monthly men’s meeting at a local restaurant and a monthly women’s meeting at the church. The music during the Sunday morning service is a nice mix between contemporary and traditional, with a small worship team that encourages congregational participation. The team doesn’t consider themselves as worship leaders; they are lead worshipers, inviting others to join them as they praise the Lord. The services are relaxed and Pastor Barry often lets others bring the message. He is humble enough to recognize the gifts God has given others to minister to the Body of Christ and gives them opportunity to share with the congregation. The last Sunday of each month is Family Sunday, where the children stay upstairs for the main service and the message is geared to specifically include them, often with activities the whole family can enjoy together. The church also offers a Wednesday evening gathering with a half-hour of Bible study followed by a half-hour of prayer for various needs. They recently instituted a special session on the first Sunday evening of each month called Salt and Light, which is a study of Christian principles in American history and in current events, often with lively discussions. I can highly recommend this church to anyone who wants solid Scriptural teaching in a relatively small and comfortable setting.

Nirvana Lynn: In my opinion, this church is full of welcoming people, but those who run it are the furthest thing from it. Youd think that a Christian church would be all for showing the love of God, but not there.
