5 /5 Grant B: I enjoyed this tour. Its not a natural cave but rather a penstock tunnel. Worth seeing, and you get a nice impression of the lock. Great to pair with a cruise on the canal. Tour guy was extremely friendly and nice. Management seemed to have an odd vibe. But highly recommend.

5 /5 Laura Barnes: We are visiting from MD and saw this Halloween Lantern evening tour, it was alot of fun in spite of the cold, rainy weather. The guide was funny and knowledgeable, and recognized the need to get us out of the rain and cold as soon as she could into the cave, yet still give all of the information she was supposed to. My only wish is that there was just a little more light to actually see the inside of the cave, and cut back on the fog machines because we could barely see enough to walk safely. It was still lots of fun and I appreciated them giving us the option to take the tour scheduled before the one we had tickets for. This is a family friendly tour, but I would like to put out there that there are quite a few steps to climb and alot of walking and needing to keep pace with your group. If you have any health issues, take that into consideration for your own comfort. Also, be sure to tip these guys and gals. Our poor guide was soaked and freezing and still kept going with a sense of humor.

He made the tour very interactive and injected humor into his repertoire of facts and historical deeds. I highly recommend this tour if you love history or the old lore surrounding the Erie canal. Very well done.

Utica Childrens Museum - Utica

Emily Gifford: My kids had a great time! Lots of spaces for indoor play. We were there for 2 hours and didn’t even make it to have the displays. It is geared to under 8 age group. Unfortunately the bathrooms are not designed for children in mind. There is no smaller potty, no stool, no toddler seat and the door unlocks by just pulling on the door handle so my toddler was able to walk out while I was using the bathroom…

Jones Zachary (Zach): Beautiful trail within the city limits. Lovely seating area along the trail. And a beautiful view of the canal. Remember to get your permits for fishing season as its an excellent location to fish!

Chancellor Park - Utica

cam: We come to this park pretty regularly. Its always a popular spot for weekend cookouts. The playground is kept up and fully functional, and we love the big open grassy area; perfect for kite flying, races, tag, cloud gazing. The skate park is abandoned and not kept up on, and the tennis courts appear the same.

Allysa Rader: I searched "playgrounds near me" while visiting Utica. Wow. The playground equipment is in disrepair, broken, unsafe. The weeds and grass are all grown up around the equipment. The field around it wasnt mowed. The painted games on the blacktop were faded. Its basically abandoned.

Rosamond Gifford Zoo - Syracuse

Katherine: The boys (2yr, 3yr) love coming to this zoo. It’s a perfect little loop outside to see the animals and then a couple exhibits indoors closer to the opening. We’ve enjoyed the food in the cafe and dippin dots when the weathers nice. We always bring a double stroller and have not had any issues navigating around. Usually spend around 1-1.5hrs roaming through. Highly recommend!

Museum of Science & Technology - Syracuse

Jillian Rorrer: This is a really large museum with a lot of cool options for kids of various ages. We went with our 2.5 year old and stayed around 3 hours exploring (a lot for her). The website and google pictures don’t do it justice—it has a lot of educational and fun activities. Pro tip—keep your toddler away from the giant play structure if it’s busy. The big kids in there are busy little bulldozers, the toddler section is lame, and there’s plenty of other more fun and age appropriate things for toddlers throughout the museum.

Onondaga Lake Park - Liverpool

Elise Keledjian: I love pace walking here. It’s full of life and everyone who walks, runs, cycles are here! It’s on the Lake so the area is quite pretty. Enjoy looking at the lake and on the other side the very beautiful homes. It’s dog friendly and great for children of any age. It’s in the Village of Liverpool and in the summer there’s always something going on. I pace walk from early spring to late fall. I grew up around here and yes it’s changed over the years but now it’s still has its special place in my heart!
