1 /5 Sheel Desai: We initially went to this shop to have a CarPlay radio installed. To their credit, they agreed to fit us in on short notice, which we appreciated—and because of that, we didn’t question it when they raised the agreed-upon install price from $150 to $200. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and trusted they’d do the right thing. We are and will be grateful that they helped us on such short notice, they are very nice people but charging for your mistake is just wrong.
Unfortunately, that trust was completely misplaced.
The radio unit we provided had numerous reviews and a printed manual stating it was fully compatible with factory rearview cameras. But after installation, the camera didn’t work. When we returned to ask if they could double-check the wiring—likely just a missed connection—they insisted the system was incompatible and told us we’d need to buy a brand new rear camera and then pay them another $150 to install it. This wasn’t an issue of adding a new part—it was a refusal to take ownership for a basic mistake in the wiring and talk us into paying more. They took zero accountability and instead blamed us, falsely claiming we had purchased the wrong unit—even though the documentation clearly supported its compatibility.
We asked politely if they could just double-check the wiring, since it was likely just a missed connection. Instead, they stuck to their false claim of incompatibility. Even worse, when the receptionist called to say the car was ready, I specifically asked if the steering wheel controls, rear camera, and other features were working—and she said yes. That was a lie. She took payment while knowingly misrepresenting the condition of the install.
Out of frustration, we took the car to Best Buy. In five minutes, their tech connected the factory camera for FREE—no new parts needed. It was exactly what we suspected: a simple wire that hadn’t been connected.
This shop tried to charge us an extra $150 to fix a problem they caused, misled us about the system being incompatible. We were more than patient and understanding, but this was a textbook example of a dishonest upsell attempt at the customer’s expense.
While very nice people, I would be careful and check everything you have done.
