1 /5 Hailey Byrne: I don’t like to do this to other businesses, but I am fearful if I don’t someone else will be faced with similar problems.
I recently took my car to RCR Auto for a New York State inspection and was left extremely disappointed with the experience. Initially, I was told my car wouldn’t pass inspection due to a disconnected joint on the suspension. They quoted $150 to fix it, which I agreed to. It’s worth noting that when I pulled in, there were no warning lights on in my car.
After they completed the repair and drove the car around the block, I was handed back my vehicle with a new inspection sticker, but now with both the ABS and traction control lights on. I immediately walked back in and asked about it. They told me it was a wheel speed sensor issue, said it was safe to drive, and asked me to return in two days so they could fix it.
When I returned, the story changed. Now instead of a wheel speed sensor, they claimed there was an issue with my wheel bearing and quoted me a repair cost of over $500. At that point, I brought the issue to my fiancé. After he called and spoke with them, they agreed to fix it for the cost of the parts only, waiving the price of labor.
However, I later had the car evaluated by a different, trusted shop. They found no issue with the wheel bearing whatsoever, no excessive sway, no abnormal noise, and no reason to believe it needed replacement. In addition, the l assessment of my vehicle noted the part they added should have been greased and it was not.
Evidently, the problem was the speed sensor all along. Once the new shop discussed this with us, a $37 part from the dealership and 20 minutes of labor turned every light off and the car is driving like it’s brand new.
I’m sharing this because if I didn’t have support and resources to double-check their claims, I likely would’ve paid for an unnecessary repair. Be careful trusting this business my experience raises serious concerns about their transparency and honesty.
