5 /5 Elvira Miles: St Patricks Cathedral is a little out of the CBD (all of about 300 metres!) but its a must-see.Not only is the Cathedral imposing extenally but it is large inside. With 33 per cent of Melburnians being Catholic, you would think it would be a busy church. And yes it is - for special occasions such as State Funerals, weddings and the like. However St Francis Church at the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale Streets, Melbourne attracts far more Mass-goers, because of its central CBD location.Be aware that St Patricks Cathederal priests and deacons are very welcoming - but there was some negative publicity in the last year when some skateboarders caused alleged offence and a Monsignor at the Cathedral unwisely lost his temper a little too much. Its simple really - the Cathedral is a House of Worship, so treat it with the reverence it deserves and that way it can remain open for all to enjoy.
