Platos Closet - Ithaca (NY)

1 /5 D J: Extremely rude staff. They didn’t welcome guests when they entered the store. They just stared at me and kept gossiping about things, including complaining about money. Employees were talking rudely about other coworkers and talking about drama. Extremely unprofessional. I saw some dirty clothes on racks. When sorting through bags they talked about the clothes they were interested in keeping for themselves. Clothes-wise, there was nothing special at the store and was not worth the time sorting through. Most things were out of style and old material. I would much rather spend my time and money where I feel respected and get the quality for my buck.

1 /5 Grace Mary: Used to come here with friends to sell and buy, but will not be coming here anymore. If you want to thrift for quality, I recommend Evergreen. The hours are not accurately represented, so it’s a waste of a drive. They’re always “closed,” even when there are people in the store and lights on. Tonight the girls working there were giggling behind the counter at 5 pm when the sign says they close at 8pm on Saturdays. They said “sorry, we’re closed.” The girls that work there are very rude and unhelpful. They are definitely y teenagers running the store that just close up whenever they feel like it.

5 /5 Katlyn Payne: Plato’s is my favorite place to shop in Ithaca by far! It allows you to get name brand products as a lower price, and has the cutest options. They employees are also the sweetest human beings and makes the shopping experience that much more enjoyable! Highly recommend :)

4 /5 Jennifer Tang: Comparing this to the Plato’s at my hometown, i thought this Plato’s was pretty good. Albeit I never sold here, so that really affects the rating but I was so happy with my purchase. The staff are really chatty and does talk about inappropriate stuffs at time, but I’m not too bothered by it. In terms of selection, there are lots of urban outfitters (which makes sense since there’s a uo in town) and various fast fashion brands. Prices are a little meh for me the most part just because I’m from Canada and have to consider conversion. Side note, they have a book section which was pretty cool for me since we don’t have that in Canada. Overall, I’d definitely come back when I have the opportunity. It’s really big and well organized! No wifi though btw although Lowe’s wifi is quite strong and goes through here at times. (Featuring my find: Brand new with tags, hot topic’s exclusive collection: Cinderella dress!)

5 /5 Olive Woo: I was trying to describe Platos closet to someone who had never heard of this store. The conversation goes like this: " Look what I got at Platos closet." (Those are really nice. How much did you pay for those?) "$14 or $16." (What size are those?) " They are my size!" (Do they have a size for me?) " No, you dont understand. Platos closet is a place where other people bring their used clothing items to be sold for cash or credit. Anything in the store is one of a kind." (Oh, thats right, you got it in Ithaca.) " It doesnt matter where you get it, the same procedure goes for every single Platos closet." Believe me. This guy was dumber than a stone. But the only thing I didnt like was that when I gave them my phone number, it didnt transfer from one store to the other. I should have used my sons number. Now I will need to keep shopping there for more fantastic items! Also, the staff was really friendly. But they always are in every location. I did however find the items to be a little bit more pricier, but Im guessing thats because of Cornell University. And I say that because the people in Ithaca do have a little bit better clothing selections.
