I am a licensed home improvement contractor who was also interested in financial planning. I reached out to Stephen Silber of Webster Investments to explore the possibility of working together. From the very start, I responded promptly and offered scheduling flexibility — evenings, weekends, and even a virtual option.
Unfortunately, I was unable to make the proposed appointment because my wife went into labor with our fourth child, while also undergoing chemotherapy treatments. These were extraordinary personal circumstances, and I informed Mr. Silber immediately. I even offered a same-day virtual estimate and multiple options to reschedule so that he would not be left waiting.
Despite that, Mr. Silber later left me a one-star review — the only one-star review I have ever received. His review was embellished, unnecessarily harsh, and not reflective of what actually occurred. We never spoke on the phone, never met in person, and no services were ever provided.
As someone who has built a flawless record of five-star reviews over decades of work, I was deeply surprised and disappointed that a fellow professional would choose to escalate a scheduling issue into a public attack. Reviews should reflect real service experiences, not speculative commentary or personal frustration.
If this is the way he chose to handle a simple interaction with me — an everyday person trying to communicate openly and honestly — I would have serious concerns about entrusting him with something as important as my retirement planning, my family’s financial future, or even something as simple as holding open a door. Run the other way, and don’t look back. Financial advisors are a dime a dozen, and I am confident there are plenty out there who will treat you with respect, fairness, and the kind of trust that such an important relationship requires.
