John Street United Methodist Church - New York
Diana Lee: Wow! It was a horrible experience today. I have been going there for 30 years and have never had an experience like that. There was a new pastor that I had never seen before, and he turned it into a political debate/his gay confession. People go to church seeking help; they are in desperate situations, and this guy is talking about who he is sleeping with and reading his love letters from 20 years ago?! They must have lost their minds. He should go to therapy before preaching in church. All I heard is I am gay, save our LGBTQ+ children, its all republicans fault. Wow. It was all about him. Irrelevant, ignorant, vulgar. I prayed for my parents who recently passed away and left. It was like a slap in the face.

Oliver: I just went for the first time. For me, these are the earmarks of what I would consider a church that I want to attend. The pastor preaches straight from the word and exposits it with historical context. Near the end of the sermon he presents the gospel and extends an invitation to non-believers (who are of course welcome to attend). After this, the bread and wine is administered to the congregation and more prayers are given. The commitment to biblical preaching and genuine community is what will likely keep me going to this church.

World Traveler: I just happened to be passing by one day and wanted to check it out. I’m so glad I went inside and was transported to this peaceful, quiet and spiritual place. The architecture is beautiful and it’s right in between massive buildings in New York City. The calming energy of the space was a nice break from the madness of the city. There’s a theater downstairs that you can access through the elevator. I just wanted to check that out because another review mentioned it. It’s not that cool but it would be fun if you attended one of their events. They seemed to have all kinds of community programs, theater and even a summer day camp for kids.

Cerise Annett: Life changing Word going forth at this church. Pastors Dan and Ann are wonderful people and teachers staying true to the Word of God (Bible). The people that go here are warm and friendly. The way the Word is taught here has changed my life. I have a more closer walk with God and Im a more calmer, forgiving person not getting triggered by even the slightest things.

Kikelomo Amusa-Shonubi: Lovely, intimate Episcopal service. Both the Rector and Assistant Rector are both women of color, which is very cool.
