5 /5 C: Every time I’m back in the States! even if it’s just a flying visit I always make sure I stop at Matilda. It’s become one of those places that feels like a little ritual for me. No matter how quick the trip is, I can’t imagine being nearby and not going.
Matilda has this beautiful, cosy-yet-modern atmosphere that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. The owner has really created something special here warm, welcoming, and full of character, without ever feeling pretentious. It’s the kind of place where you instantly relax.
The food is always exceptional. Some of their signature dishes are honestly unforgettable like the wood-grilled oysters with bone marrow (sounds unusual, tastes incredible) and their crispy little dauphine potatoes that I could happily eat a whole bowl of. Everything is seasonal, thoughtful, and so beautifully put together. You can tell there’s real passion behind every plate.
Whether I’m going for a proper dinner or just sharing a few dishes with friends, it’s always the highlight of my trip. Matilda never disappoints. If you’re anywhere in Upstate New York, you have to try it, it’s one of those places you fall in love with and keep coming back to.
