1 /5 Barry Derfel: They have become negligent and unresponsive. I was a well-cared for patient, who trusted this practice, for over 20 years. They had helped me through s number of serious health issues with compassion and professional expertise. Not anymore! Since the practice was taken over and a number of doctors & nurses have retired, the quality of care has been abysmal. For example, my new doctor barely looked up from the computer during my first physical with him, and a second time, while I explained my concerns about a significant health concern, I had to stop talking and wait three or four seconds for him to notice and actually look at me to see what I was pointing to. I have talked to many other patients who have had similar experiences. In addition, we patients are routinely being told that no appointments are available for two to three months, when calling with flu-like symptoms, dizziness, or similar issues, and we are consistently told instead that we should "go to the ER if we need care." Rather than patient phone calls being returned in kind, the practice texts us portal messages, usually a week or two later, with vague or trite responses. Those front office staff who have remained are still professional and courteous with patients, but it seems they are not in a position to elicit more appropriate, timely, and thoughtful care from the providers. I have communicated my concerns directly to my doctor, the office manager, front office staff, and the Cayuga Health patient advocate staff. Nothing has changed for the better.
