5 /5 Theresa St. John: Man, if you are a history buff, this is a place you want to visit. Very interesting. Part is set up in the old bank. Other side had a huge exhibit of one of the prominent familys home. The buildings are connected and I could have spent more time there. They have a little gift shop as well. The people working there are passionate about their area of New York State, and it shows. Very well put together, exhibits change - which is always nice to see. Loved it! Highly recommend.

Brand Park - Elmira

The park is well-equipped with a playground, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, and tennis courts, ensuring theres something for every active member of the family. For those who prefer a more relaxed afternoon, there are pavilions and barbecue grills available, perfect for picnicking while watching the kids play. One of the highlights is the Brand Park Summer Concert Series, which brings the park to life every Sunday during the summer. The Brand Park Beautification Committee and local businesses sponsor these concerts, adding a lively and community-focused vibe. The park has a rich history, dating back to a donation of land in 1901 by John Brand Jr. Over the years, dedicated individuals and groups like the Maple Avenue Task Force and the Brand Park Beautification Committee have worked hard to maintain and improve the park, adding features like a brick path, pathway lanterns, and a handicap-accessible pavilion. Although the pool is currently slated for demolition with plans to build a splash pad, theres hope that a Downtown Revitalization Initiative application might lead to even grander improvements.

Maria Z: Very spacious and nicely maintained park. Hosts a splash pad and BBQ grills. Lots of picnic benches as well There’s also shaded areas for you to enjoy your picnic. Highly recommend visiting with young children as the splash pad is fabulous and fun! You can easily spend 1-2 hours here.

KC Travel: I visited in October, so it was not very busy at all. I went for a short, quiet walk down to the water. It was very peaceful. It was lovely just sitting there, looking at the beautiful colors on the trees & out across Lake Champlain. I left some Kindness Rocks at a couple of the trail heads and on a few of the MANY picnic tables available for use. I had a limited amount of time to spend at the park. I was unable to take advantage of the many trails, so I could not speak about those. Hopefully, if I have the opportunity to visit again, I will have the time to explore.

Plattsburgh State Art Museum - Plattsburgh

Nancy: I recently moved to the area and was excited to see Plattsburgh had an art museum but, unfortunately when I visited it turned out to be a disappointment. The museum website led me to believe that it was open year round which, it isnt. Located on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus, we walked into a dimly lit entryway with no clear signage or someone to greet us so, we began to wonder. Eventually someone arrived to open the door to the sculpture area on the 2nd floor. When I asked about the art shown on the website she said that they only display during the school year. I hope to return in the fall.
