3 /5 Paul OHanlon: Update: I did get a better understanding of happened. I had Medicare at the time and they have agreements with certain dental practices, but Gold Coast was not one of those so they don’t reimburse most dentists very much for certain procedures.
I don’t know why they didn’t just explain that. I’m sure he knew this because the place I was referred to are the only ones in this area that Medicare has an agreement with.
I do understand it from his point of view, but it was not well handled.
I had a very poor experience. I was told that I needed a procedure that would probably not be covered. He said he would file the claim, but to assume that it would be denied. He offered a great deal if I paid out of pocket and pressured me to fill out a financing application immediately.
I made it clear that I would wait for the answer from my insurance company. He suggested it again, and I repeated that I would wait for the claim to be processed.
We finished up and he told me to go upfront and schedule my next cleaning. I went out to waiting room to do this, but was told to come into the office where they told me to take a seat, and they handed my the financing application. I told the receptionist that I had already refused the offer twice.. she looked confused and had me go back out the window and schedule the next cleaning.
A week or so later I found that the claim was in fact approved. But when I called the office the receptionist told me to get in touch with another dental office and gave me the number. This other office had no idea who I was, I had assumed this was a referral and he had forwarded my info, but it turned out he was just trying to rid of me.
It took a few calls, but his office staff finally admitted that he didnt like the amount my insurance would pay him and would only do the procedure If I paid what he wanted out of pocket.
