I have been going since I was a kid and finally got to take my child. She is 8 years old and was full of wonder! She loved the cave kisses and the boat ride. Her favorite part was the winding way!!! The gift shop didnt hurt either! Lots of awesome swag.
Captain Bills - Watkins Glen J. Daigle: Took my sister on a beautiful scenic boat ride while we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Periodically throughout the ride, the Captain explained a lot of history about Senica Lake. It was absolutely gorgeous scenery and the perfect weather to enjoy it. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. He definitely was very good at his job. I highly recommend this boat ride to spend time with family and enjoy food and drinks. They have a really good bar on the lower deck with a variety of yummy drinks!
Templar Falls - Watkins Glen Sarah Prospero: Super cool waterfall wading/swimming hole right off the side of the road. You can park at the turnout, there’s room for a couple of cars. The finger lakes trail goes right by the falls and also to a cool old cemetery. Just watch out for ticks if you go off the trail! We found a few on my dog and son.
Rainbow Falls - Watkins Glen Sara Silva: Great place for walk through water falls, hills and breathtaking view. Lots of stairs and fair amount of distance to walk. Parking could be a problem on the weekends and holidays.
Sugar Hill State Forest - Watkins Glen Johnna Folts: My husband and I have camped weekends at Sugar Hill with our horses for the last 3 years. The horse stables and park itself are safe and very well kept. The bathroom facilities are clean. There are water wells to fill buckets (for horses) or for cleaning gear. There are fire rings and hibachi grills for each site but you provide your own wood/charcoal. There is no store on site for purchasing supplies. It can get busy but we’ve always found a suitable site and enjoyed our private time there. The trails are great and provide just the right amount of challenge! We’re happy to have this quality facility so near, and for free!
Watkins Glen State Park - Watkins Glen Daniel De Leon: This was my first time visiting, and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to see. Traveling from NYC, the trip was definitely worth it. We went on a Tuesday, and luckily, it wasn’t very crowded. I wasn’t dressed quite right for the terrain, though, it’s possible to manage in sneakers you don’t mind getting dirty, but I’d recommend wearing hiking boots with good ankle support. Some parts of the trail are quite rocky, and I felt like I could have twisted my ankle if I hadn’t been careful. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend checking it out.
Castel Grisch Winery - Watkins Glen Ty L: We have a group of 7 enjoying the wine flights, the overall interesting one we all liked are Chardonnay Riesling mix. For wine lovers with younger KiDs they might like the dinosaur and animal lights on the property. It does have some nice decent views.
Shequaga Falls Park - Montour Falls Sara Silva: We were looking for locations that i can easily walk with the wedding dress, this is a beautiful waterfall approximately 100m away from the road.

Nestled right on the southern edge of Seneca Lake, the park offered more than just open space—it was a visual retreat that combined natural beauty with a touch of local history. The views of the lake were breathtaking, especially as the sun danced on the water’s surface, making it a perfect spot for photography or a reflective pause during a busy travel itinerary.
One of the most captivating things about Clute Park is how seamlessly it blends recreation with tranquility. I wandered along the waterfront path, where locals and visitors alike were enjoying everything from casual strolls to lakeside picnics. The playground and splash pad were full of laughter, while the open spaces gave families room to spread out and enjoy the fresh air.
After spending time by the water, I explored the small downtown area of Watkins Glen, which is just a short walk away. It’s full of charming shops, cozy cafés, and friendly locals. Fun fact: the Corvette idea was actually “born” here in Watkins Glen, giving this scenic little town an unexpected place in American automotive history. Between the vibrant local flavor and Clute Park’s peaceful lakeside setting, this stop became a memorable highlight of my Finger Lakes journey. Highly recommended for nature lovers, families, and road trippers alike.
