Woods Hollow Nature Preserve - Ballston Spa (NY)

4 /5 Matthew Jones: A nice, small network of trails with a little bit of elevation gain, but not enough to make much of a difference between these trails and completely flat trails. There are multiple interesting landmarks throughout the trails, including a reservoir, lupine fields (an essential plant for the survival of the critically imperiled karner blue butterfly endemic to the Northeast and Great Lakes), a ravine, and others. The trails are wide and generally well-maintained, however, the trail markers could be better. Instead of using plastic reflective markers, they use colored spray paint on the trees. This makes the trail markers easy to miss, although getting lost in these woods isn’t much of a worry given that walking a few minutes in any direction will bring you to a road. There are some wooden signs at certain forks in the trail, but the signs are a bit dilapidated and hard to read.

5 /5 Ashley Beavers-Heywood: My family had a good time yesterday on these nice, quiet walking trails. The lake is beautiful, were definitely going to visit again with fishing poles. We only saw two other people while we were walking, only one other car in the parking lot. The maps that are posted at the entrance and by the lake are not very helpful though, there are a bunch of smaller foot trails that arent on the maps so it can be a little confusing. Its the perfect time of year to go, the weather was perfect yesterday and most of the trails are shaded so it was a comfortable little hike. Theres a loop that goes past the lake, its a pretty short trail, but there are other trails that go a lot further so you have choices on how far you want to go. My family loved this place and we will be back.

4 /5 Kristin Brust: Been here many times but whenever I try to go on the green trail I always get turned around...maybe its just me but I feel like it needs to be better marked. Lots of ticks depending on the time of year. Lots of people with their dogs off leash, which I dont mind but I know some people do. But overall a beautiful place to take a walk.

5 /5 Nick: I love this place. Some of the smaller trails are overgrown. They could definitely use some work. Beware of ticks. Other trails are nice and wide. Great place to walk your dog or just go for an easy hike and enjoy nature. Usually pretty quiet, but can get busy. Not challenging at all. A few small hills. My video is of a small trail with Christmas ornaments(I think its the yellow trail). Started with a few, now it’s grown to this. It’s pretty cool. Fyi, poor cell phone reception.
