Ellis Family Practice Associates - Schenectady Kristen Rosa: In my 38 years, I have never walked out on a medical appointment. I had such a miserable experience this morning with Dr. Sushma Prathipati that I left and will never go back. I’ve been chronically ill for years and unfortunately am on several medications to manage my symptoms. It has taken me a considerable amount of time to get on a regimen that allows me to live a semblance of a life. Dr. Prathipati questioned nearly all of my medications. She was also insulting my intelligence, by asking if I knew all of the side effects of my medications. Yes, I am aware of them. I’m also aware that any POTENTIAL side effects are outweighed by the benefits of said medications. She said, “You might have some doctors who will give you whatever you want, but that’s not how we do things here.” Dr. Prathipati made it crystal clear that if I were a patient of hers, she would deny me medications that keep me from suffering every day. “First do no harm,” right? Apparently not for her. Her bedside manner was atrocious. She should find another line of work.
edit: I just had the opportunity to review my chart and the “good doctor’s” notes. First of all, she made it sound as if she only questioned me on one of my medications, when she basically questioned every single one, and made snarky remarks about all of them. Not only that, but I made it crystal clear as to why I was originally prescribed one of my long-term medications, which was NOT the reason that she put in her notes. Instead, she made up her own diagnosis: one that no other doctor has given me since I’ve been prescribed said medication. And to no one’s great surprise, she didn’t make any notes on all of the rude remarks she made. Maybe she doesn’t find them relevant, but I do. I will be filing an official complaint with the hospital regarding her lack of professionalism (among other things).
