06-2025 Pearl Gravit Memorial Park in Hight rate 6 location for tourist in Mayville, NY, USAChautauqua Institution - Mayville Brandon Whittemore: Reminds me of Carmel, CA. Have not attended any events other than a Jurasic Park showing at the amputheater accumpined by an orchestra for the soundtrack. This place was developed to be the "perfect community". I was half expecting to see the Stepford Wives. I did enjoy the area. Plan on attending some events this summer. Be warned, the Brick Walk Cafe has low standards for the quality of the food served.
Mark Twains Study - Elmira Theresa St. John: Awesome place to visit - who hasnt read at least one of his books??? Very small and simple, but wonderful to go inside and stand where he stood, look out the windows where he gazed off into the distance while he wrote about life. Docents share the history from May to October. Hours are posted on the door and website. Cool piece of history on the college graounds.
Arnot Art Museum - Elmira Lake Kubilius: Small place, but an art lovers gem in the heart of Elmira. Some extremely high quality pieces in a very quiet place. Excellent for a quick, thoughtful stroll with no crowds.
Eldridge Park - Elmira 彥萱Ann (Ann): A nice little park to hang out at - enjoy some rides, mini golf, food, paddle boats .... ☺️
John W. Jones Museum - Elmira Nancy Shumway: What a wonderful little piece of history. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Our tour guide Cleveland was extremely knowledgeable and made all these facts interesting. He was friendly and seemed to truly enjoy sharing the life of John W. Jones with us. Take the time to stop and visit. You wont be disappointed.
Chemung Valley History Museum - Elmira James Carroll: Great historical society and museum. Lots of information on many topics of the area. Really nice space and a really friendly staff totally worth a look.
National Soaring Museum - Elmira Theresa St. John: Wonderful museum highlighting the history of soaring. I have more images, and will add them as I find them. Docent was very knowlegeable, especially with the WWII soaring and females who became important figures in the industry. Nice gift shop with books and other items to purchase while there. I thought it was a very interesting place to visit.
Harris Hill Amusement Park - Elmira Darrick Dominick: Hours posted last Sunday where open until 8pm. We took our granddaughter to play putt putt and we got there at 1pm only to find them closed. They had no electricity and had to shut down at 10am. As to no fault of theirs we should have called ahead. The other times we have been there since I was a youngster, its great family fun. Go carts, kids amusement rides, driving range, batting cage, and a free 3 hole golf course.
Brand Park - Elmira Tina Neal: Brand Park in Elmira is a fantastic spot, especially if youre looking for a place that caters to both kids and adults. The park is well-equipped with a playground, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, and tennis courts, ensuring theres something for every active member of the family. For those who prefer a more relaxed afternoon, there are pavilions and barbecue grills available, perfect for picnicking while watching the kids play.
One of the highlights is the Brand Park Summer Concert Series, which brings the park to life every Sunday during the summer. The Brand Park Beautification Committee and local businesses sponsor these concerts, adding a lively and community-focused vibe.
The park has a rich history, dating back to a donation of land in 1901 by John Brand Jr. Over the years, dedicated individuals and groups like the Maple Avenue Task Force and the Brand Park Beautification Committee have worked hard to maintain and improve the park, adding features like a brick path, pathway lanterns, and a handicap-accessible pavilion. Although the pool is currently slated for demolition with plans to build a splash pad, theres hope that a Downtown Revitalization Initiative application might lead to even grander improvements.
Pulaski Park - Elmira Maria Z: Very spacious and nicely maintained park.
Hosts a splash pad and BBQ grills.
Lots of picnic benches as well
There’s also shaded areas for you to enjoy your picnic.
Highly recommend visiting with young children as the splash pad is fabulous and fun!
You can easily spend 1-2 hours here.
