She gave me an amazing new look with k-tip extensions to build up lost volume due to thinning hair. She was so kind, thoughtful, and attentive. Michelle Lou So happy that an Asian hair salon has opened up in this area of Brooklyn! I’ve gone to Keiji twice now for hair coloring (which I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, but was hesitant bc of hair health and maintenance), and have been delighted with results both times. Actually about to head in for my 3rd session w him for touch up. For context, I was a first-timer starting out with virgin black hair and wanted to go to a very light ashy purple. Keiji was really great throughout the whole process. When I made the initial appointment, he reached out via email to talk about my desired hairstyle. He also answered all my questions about bleaching and talked me through the steps for double process hair coloring. I felt like he was really attentive in his preparation. Once we got to the actual appointment, Keiji took his time to explain toner colors and considerations for going lighter. I wanted to go for a very light color, which he told me would require a double bleach and my hair might not be able to handle it. He was very transparent and upfront about what was possible, which I appreciated. And then when picking toner colors, I specified I wanted a light ashy purple, not saturated, not dark, and Keiji explained the different possibilities and pros/cons of going darker at first and how toner color would lighten over time. The whole time I felt like Keiji was really patient and careful about making sure I got the hairstyle I wanted, while being honest about longevity and potential hair damage. Overall, I’ve been really happy w U&K and highly recommend it to anybody considering it. The salon itself is very clean and airy with lots of light, and Keiji really takes his time to style your hair. Never felt rushed at all. Plus, when I went in for my 2nd appointment, Keiji remembered me and had notes for everything we’d done previously! So great to have your hairstylist remember your preferences and not having to explain everything all over again. (PS this salon is cash only so remember to visit the ATM before coming here)

Ariana Sisti I went to Keiji based on a recommendation from my cousin whose haircut was super cute. I was nervous because I quite literally had been gotten my haircut by the same person since middle school (22 years), and I am very particular about my hair. I showed him inspiration photos and described what I wanted and what I wanted to avoid. Keiji did a fantastic job, my haircut looks fantastic. He was able to achieve a great balance of what I asked for and what he thought was appropriate for my hair and face. My hair is in a short bob, so style and symmetry are super important. I first got my hair done by her back in February of 2022 and she has been my go-to for anything hair related since then. She really takes the time to understand what you want and how you can get there. My hair has never looked and felt healthier. Every time she worked on my hair, I received many compliments and I even got the chance to refer some people to her because of how impressed they were. Stef Maus Eshk is the best hair styling studio in Greenpoint. The space is minimal and inviting, with loads of natural light. There’s never a wait, and the prices are moderate, which is wonderful compared to other salons. Kaori always gives me an indulgent shampoo and head massage and a super stylish cut. She has a keen eye and can see what works well with your face shape and your individual style. A++

The stylist, Nadezhda, did an incredible job with my hair: I have curly hair, and she is the first stylist who was able to handle it and gave me the cut I wanted. Kelly Ann I had my hair done for the first time ever at Lima hair salon and I was so happy with the results. Honestly, I say she saved my life. After a bad haircut and damaged hair I had to find a place that could fix my problem. Lima was so attentive and answered all my questions over the phone and luckily I was able to come in the same day to get extensions done. Someone there said they call her the magician! And I agree she made magic happen! I went from looking like a little boy to looking like a woman again when she did her magic and added beautiful extensions to my hair. Zhanat Mak I came here as a model for a free service of hair blowouts. Recently, I dyed my hair roots with a farmacy color (Loreal Excellence #4 dark brown, which was not a dark brown at all. It looked like a ginger color on my roots. All other parts were dark brown. It looked cheap. So, they offered me to pay just for the materials and fix the color of my hair. I cant be more grateful, it was a promotion, despite that, they did a very good job ! I was mothered so gentle and carefully. I was welcomed with the tea and cookies. The playlist of the music was so relaxing. The atmosphere, you know. I needed it so much, too much stress around. Im absolutely satisfied with the color of my hair. I am so thankful for the opportunity to get a high-quality service for the affordable price. And I love professional people who love their jobs. We need to provide more generosity and humanity to survive in this economy, like The Lima beauty salon does, as an example for us to follow. Highly recommend !

Oluwakemi Omotunde I’ve been going to Ms. Victoria for years. She’s literally the only person I trust to do my hair. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares about your locs, your time, etc, she’s your person. She makes her own oils and pomade as well, which my locs just love!

Kalei Taylor I got my hair done early February 1 and my hair started to fall out immediately after my appointment. When chatting over the phone with the rep, I negoiated a price because I purchased human hair that I was bringing in myself. I sent photos of what I wanted (Gypsy Knotless) and they said that it would be $300 once I got into the space. Once I got in the chair my hairstylist was 30 minutes late to the appointment and she told me that what I confirmed over the phone was incorrect and my new price would be $365. I was already in the chair and waiting, so I just accepted the new price. My stylist was very nice, but I did have questions about how big the pieces should be and she didnt want to go bigger. The stylist never mentioned not washing my hair and the gel was caked on and my head was starting to itch badly so I washed it. Majority of my hair fell out. When I asked the stylist if she would be willing to do a partial refund or fix the issue. She told me it was because of my hair texture that it fell out. I have 3b/3c hair. I have never had an issue with hair falling out like this. I was sad that they could not resolve the issue. Aside from it falling out the roots also look so sad. They are billowing out and not laying to my head, so overall this was a poor job of braiding. I unfortunately will never go back and I hope the 3B/3C community sees this so that they know, that their texture cannot be executed in to braids by their stylists. Im going to try and salvage as much hair as possible so its not a complete waste of money. But its unfortunate that they were not willing to resolve this issue.

Ferrick Moore I can’t thank K enough for the amazing job she did on my hair! I came in needing a big change, I was absolutely stressed and needed the hair GONE! She listened to exactly what I wanted and made it happen – even though she’s not technically a barber shop. My hair was even on all sides and clean. Marchelle Kotomi has been cutting and dyeing my hair for the past year or so. She is incredibly talented, always producing high quality results. I have naturally fine, brown hair and she successfully takes me to a platinum blonde without causing any damage. Ive been bleaching my hair for almost 10 years across at least a dozen stylists, and Kotomi has done the best job of anyone. Kotomi also gave me the best haircut I have EVER had - exactly what I wanted. She does a great job of seeing the vision and bringing it to life. She is also careful, precise, and gentle while still producing results more quickly than most stylists are able to. I never even think about going somewhere else. I have also had my hair done once by Limi and had a similar experience! I was very happy with the color and cut. Highly recommend Room Salon.

Danielle Wu Mayuu has been cutting my hair for years, and I always appreciated so much her sensitivity, bubbly spirit, and technical mastery at digital perms. The cuts here are worth the expense because the grow out is seamless, and I only end up coming 1-2 times a year. I rarely feel compelled to leave business reviews, but Room has been so consistently good to me that its the least I can do to show my support and pray they stay open forever. I especially appreciate the nurturing environment that has been cultivated there, from the staff that seems to genuinely support each other down to the lovely artwork scattered throughout. Whats better than getting pampered amid plants and soothing music? I cant wait to come back soon :)

Kali T I came to this salon back in October 2023 for highlights and styling. They advertise themselves as being inclusive of all hair types and textures, but as someone with 4B-4C hair, my experience really didnt reflect that. The highlight service with Ari went well. However, the styling portion of my appointment, which was pre-booked, was handled differently than expected. Without explanation, I was transferred to another stylist who appeared unfamiliar with my hair texture. They applied a strengthening treatment for an additional $45 that left my hair feeling dry. When I inquired about the styling that I had booked after the poor result from the second stylist, I was passed to a third stylist. Throughout this process, there was minimal communication about these changes. The payment situation was a mess too. After paying about $500 (with tip), they told me the payment didnt go through and asked me to pay again. I found out later they were having issues with their payment system and this had happened before - but nobody told me that at the time. Being non-confrontational, I agreed to the second charge, but ended up leaving the salon with a double charge of over $1000 on my card. While they did eventually fix the payment issue, I walked out with no clear idea of when Id get my money back, and poorly styled hair. While the highlight service itself was okay, the lack of communication, stylist swaps, and payment problems made this a really disappointing experience.

As I described the look I was going for she listened attentively, made great suggestions, then executed a fab cut that frames my face and fits my lifestyle as a mom of a young child. Xiao Chen Update: After reaching out to them directly, Gloria personally assisted me with the haircut. Now, the hair is not uneven and I have received many compliments. Thank you, Gloria! ----------- The worst cut I’ve gotten in years and this was my first visit to this Salon. Couldn’t tell right after the cut when she blew it out but can tell the contrast in the “layering” once hair is washed out. I wasn’t asking for a complicated cut… I asked for shoulder length cut with a little layer and a face frame. She even asked what length I want the face frame to be, which is around the chin (the shortest hair). However, the layer is shorter than my face frame so top half looks like a mushroom when my hair dries. I’ve been using a clip for the top ever since I got this haircut. Also, came in with hair parted to the right and left with hair parted in the middle. Thought I would just go for a new look but the hair cut is just horrible, regardless of the parting. Dana L Ann Marie did my wedding hair and it’s beautiful. She’s so meticulous and detail oriented. I was very well taken care of. I was worried about time but she was very efficient and they even took me in a few minutes early as soon as I arrived. The other people at the salon too were so kind and they even gave me a little gift bag! Would definitely come back to try a haircut or color!

Kate Detrick I never write reviews - very occasionally you have an experience with a vendor that restores your faith in humanity and this is that for me. I had a miscommunication with my stylist (who’s a lovely person) re a cut and color which was very distressing. The general manager Gloria reached out to me and insisted she fix it personally. I had the best time with her at my correction appointment - she’s a kind, thoughtful, down to earth person who has the traits of a true leader, and has created a hair salon environment that feels like a community. From booking appointments with Jimmy to any possible rescheduling, to the hair services and the stylists Hair &co is topnotch and always the most pleasant experience. Jimmy is an expert and makes everything very easy for the client. My 7 yr old is a fan of Mindy who makes sure every strand for her customer is painstakingly perfect, from the hairwash to the haircuts esp the perfection blowouts after; she enjoys the process thoroughly. I got a blowout from Kathy which was phenomenal as that woman’s sense of humour! My partner had to take me to dinner after -was that good that blowout! I will highly recommend! At every step Jimmy and the whole staff makes sure you are comfortable and at ease. Will absolutely recommend!

My Asian hair is fairly straight despite its thickness (aka I dont fall into the typical thin straight hair category), and she always knows how to layer it so that its super low maintenance.

Lili Gao Loved my haircut from here! Chinami and I discussed what I wanted, looked at a magazine for inspiration and away she went. A confident stylist who knew what she was doing. The space is simple and clean and they serve you tea in a nice ceramic cup when you arrive. The collection of magazines is also up to date, I flipped through the current month’s Vogue. I would not have minded a longer neck massage (another reviewer raved about hers so my expectations were high!) My real only complaint is the towel used to keep my clothes dry during the hair washing. It had a bit of a unclean smell to it that made me uncomfortable.

PTR I’ve been going to chinami for over 20 years!!! I followed her from her time at a different salon in Manhattan and once she opened her own salon in Brooklyn, I travel further to see her. Well worth it!!!! My daughter now goes to her too. She not only delivers the haircut you want, she advises if maybe it cannot be achieved due to hair texture. Bring a picture. That’ll help the process. She is also an amazing colorist. I had her help me with my wedding hairstyle too. Total trust. Highly recommend her and her team!!!

Ive got entire body+facial massage for 90 mins and the experience was fantastic. I was sleeping like a baby while getting treatment. It just felt heavenly. Eve RS I never leave reviews like this, but Ive had a very upsetting experience with Salon 87s staff and cancellation fee policy. I had to cancel a couple of hours into the 24-hour cancellation window due to a legitimate family emergency but they would not budge on the $130 cancellation fee. Visiting the salon has always been a special experience that I very carefully budget for amidst other financial priorities and I was hoping to even just reschedule, but they said the fee would still apply, making it financially impossible for me to reschedule anyways. It’s incredibly disheartening that loyal customers history and circumstances arent taken into account, especially when emergencies happen outside of our control. I understand that policies are in place for a reason, but I had hoped for a more felxible or human approach, particularly in regards to a sum of money as large as this, and from an independent business, when it was so very close to being within the acceptable cancellation window.

Eleanor C Aya is an amazing hairdresser. Every now and then I get bangs and layers too my hair but usually I have to grow it out after the salon. Aya cut it so that I’m happy with it the day of + this is the best cut I’ve had in NYC! Excited to come back.
