5 /5 Kristy Johnson: I gotta say: I was impressed! So much history I didn’t expect! The grounds are resplendent with magnificent gardens and verdant grass and amazing views, and it’s all very accessible (I used my walker. Others used canes). A lovely place to take a walk (nice because there were no dogs and they must be leashed if here), and I even “brought” my students virtually for a tiny field trip. I love the gift shop too, and the creative ways the team comes up with for fundraising. I had no idea that Mr Morse’ dad wrote geography books, or that Mr Morse was a painter before he became a famous inventor! Such fascinating history! Also, just a really gorgeous, peaceful place, and I’m glad it exists.

5 /5 Jeanine F.: A hidden gem in Dutchess County! I’ve lived here all my life and have never been to Locust Grove until now. I did not tour the home because I went on a Tuesday (no tours), but I was able to walk the trails which were gorgeous! The trails are not the most flat, so be prepared to go “hiking” and wear good shoes. Even if you aren’t the hiking type (like me!) they are very pretty to walk on and you will be glad you did it! I will definitely be stopping by again to try one of the other trails & to tour the house.

5 /5 Jason Olson: We enjoyed Locust Grove through a private wedding reception. Although early in the year the lilacs were budding. The facility is amazing and the architecture is cool. We enjoyed the view of the valley as well as the other mansions on the property. Easy to get to, and in and out of. We would visit here again, after spring has fully sprung.

5 /5 Jayda Olson: Attended a private wedding reception here. Lovely grounds. Clean, big, beautiful view. Plenty of room. Great for photos too. Apparently on regular open days you can tour a museum. Can’t imagine the artifacts they have. Would love to return.

4 /5 Carol Ann Jason: Locust Grove Estate was a great place to walk or hike. The grounds were nice and trails through wooded areas were very peaceful. There is a nice visitors center with restrooms where one may pick up a map of trails on the estate. We did not tour the home during this visit due to the perfect weather for being outdoors.

Jessica: The former restaurant that was named the river station. Well the parking lot there for that restaurant which has been closed for a little while now has turned into a place where people smoke marijuana inside their cars and do sexual acts inside the cars and this is because the restaurant has not been sold and there is no police presence at this park by the river and theres a lot of crazy activity that goes down over there. Back in the early 2000s cops used to patrol that area. Dems have not let the police so their work and it shows in the horrible state the city of Poughkeepsie is after like three decades. Disgusting. The new Mayor needs to address these issues and also the horrible condition of the streets in the city of Poughkeepsie. I should send my car repair bills straight to the mayor herself so she can pay for them.

David Gurzynski: A very nice place for a nature walk! In a bit of a valley so its quieter. Dont go looking for bathrooms, the area is QUITE undeveloped and that makes it a nice walk.

Anne Hathaway did not spit in my food.: Sad to have seen the closure of the Academy Food Hall and Bread & Batter Bakery a little while ago, but this mural lives on as a backdrop to many weddings & other events. You can still get burgers & coffee here, and host professional events nearby. Hoping these paintings & buildings get preserved for ages!

Hudson Bridge Walking Elevator - Poughkeepsie

Liliana Judge: We used the Hudson Bridge Walking Elevator on Saturday around 10 am to go down, and there was an attendant inside managing it. However, when we tried to return up at 10:30 am, the elevator wasn’t working. We waited for 30 minutes and tried everything - called the posted phone number (mailbox was full), waved my hat to get the attention of staff, all to no avail. Fortunately, a maintenance person came by and was able to fix the elevator for one ride only, which allowed us to get back up. They continued working on repairs for the rest of the day. The staff was helpful once they arrived, but it would be extremely beneficial to have an electronic sign that updates visitors on the elevator’s status (open, closed, or under maintenance). Overall, the elevator is a convenient service when operational, and the maintenance team was responsive once on site.
