1.Modern Nail Tech INC

Address: 2014 Church Ave Room 11, Brooklyn, NY 11226

(86) Reviews Modern Nail Tech INC:

Nana Osei-Tutu Went yesterday for a regular pedicure and acrylic set, and all I’m going to say is to tread with caution. The man who did my pedicure did a good job, but the woman who did my manicure could care less about how my nails turned out. I asked for a maroon french and this is how they turned out. Extremely sloppy looking, very even, and way chunkier than I would have liked them to be. I also asked for my nails to be shorter, but the woman kept insisting that if I wanted almond nails, they needed to be medium length. I probably should have waited to get my nails done by the other woman that was there because the other customer that was having her nails done came out very nice. Again, tread carefully if you plan on getting serviced at this salon. Take all the sparkling reviews with a grain of salt.

Ivana Jiron I just moved to the area and have been coming here for a few months now. They are super friendly and helpful when it comes to your requests. I’ve been getting simple acrylic manicure and gel pedicure and they have come out beautiful. I haven’t tried the other nail shop across the street mostly because I like the vibe of this place and will continue coming here.

keithlee spangler My dip came out lumpy, uneven, and streaky. She tried to cover it with matching gel, which took care of the streaks, but it’s still uneven, lumpy, and poorly applied around the base and edges. $45 plus tip for a manicure I’ll need to get redone. She said it’s because the dip wasn’t dry enough when she started filing, so I don’t know why we didn’t wait longer except that there were other people waiting and she probably wanted to rush me out. I also asked for coffin and she did mostly square. Did not feel like she listened to me, even as I continued to advocate.

Li S Not my favorite place-- I only go here if absolutely desperate. Unfortunately Ive had two poor experiences, most recently I ended up yelping about my cuticles (I had told the tech before we began, and during that I cant stand my cuticles being pulled--she didnt it anyway, more than once, until I finally got my hand away from her). Like, please listen to your customers! Also, its not super clean, and really needs an update!

Miz P I have been coming to this nail salon for a short while and have been receiving great service. Yes not all are able to do my nails due in part to the length of my nails or not being as experienced with nail design. However my nail tech is patient and experienced, and creates beautiful designs. The business has made upgrades with new pedicure chairs and other changes appear to be in the works. I look forward to continued patronage of this business.

Mav Ali I give it a 3 star because the older lady’s were rude and when I asked to do design or put some diamonds she flat out told me “NO, she doesn’t have time” I am a customer and if I come to get my nails done in it place then u should make sure I m happy with ur service but I guess they don’t care! Well I did my nails On 10/23/20 and on 10/25 one of my nails just broke and on 10/26 second broke! I m not even taking about the cuticles they are terrible. I m very displeased with the service and my nails! I should have gone back to Delacqua Salon instead of giving them business and a tip of 18$ I don’t recommend this place!

Rajeana Brown At first it was nice they did a good job even tho the prep was poor I loved the design. I even went back for a fill. The full didnt last a week. When a nail came off it as green under. Ive always had my nails done constantly and its never happened before. I thought it was the Polish at first but when I let them give a regular manicure to clean it up it ended up fungal. I asked to change nail files and they had no clean ones

Jerri My first time here yesterday! I traveled 2 hours & Jenny did my nails and I can honestly say I’m impressed! I’m very picky and pay attention to details with my nails and my nails are TOP NOTCH. Jenny’s work is CLEAN & CRISP! From shaping, coloring, designs ETC! There’s no error/sloppiness. Some nail techs would leave beads of color acrylic powder under your nails and not drill it off or your designs will be uneven or nails crooked… NOPE not with Jenny! I’m beyond satisfied although it was pricey, it was worth it. Now I will just be paying attention to see how long my set lasts as my nail beds are naturally weak and I do a lot of things with my nails, I normally get 2 & a half weeks until the nails look worn/torn and starts to pop off. We will see but for now just off the service and quality alone, I will be back. ❤️

JJ66 Was getting ready to come here because I heard such good reviews on tik tok but i changed my mind. I called and asked about their services and the wait time.. while speaking to the lady a guy in the background interrupts and yelled aggressively if you’re going to come then you have to wait! All i asked was if it was busy. Totally unnecessary and i wasn’t even speaking to him! How do you even lose a customer before being serviced?! As a business owner I’m big on customer service and if I could give them zero stars I would.

Vicki morales I would give -10 stars if I could. Very rude, horrible skills. My nails were supposed to be done with hard gel and design. The thickness came out 3 times thicker than I expected. The nails started to break 3 days after I did them. I recommend going anywhere but there.

Destiny G This is probably the worst service I ever experienced. I went to get my nails done for my birthday and the woman who did my pedicure was so nasty to me with an extremely rude tone and even raised her voice when I asked her a question. She didn’t do a good job with the pedicure and rushed through it. Then when I did my nails I thought the nail tech was going to be better because she seemed nice.. but she kept trying to push for me to get gel on my acrylic and I said no twice and then told me the price was $20 more than it should have been. Turns out it was more expensive because she started putting gel polish anyway. When I told her I want regular polish, I had to keep telling her multiple times and when she finally did use regular polish she rushed through it and didn’t even put polish on the full nail plus there were bubbles everywhere. Oh and when I did a soak, there was so much residue stuck on my fingers which they did not take off and they didn’t even put lotion which is standard in every nail salon I’ve ever been too. I’m from Brooklyn and I know what to expect and this wasn’t it.. this was the worst experience, I left crying because have no choice but to work with what I got done. I will not return.

Aris S. I thought this place was too good to be true with their $20 regular pedicures and $35 gel pedicures. I got my pedicure done 2 days ago and the work was PAINFUL. The lady dug too deep and frequently clipped my skin and nail bed. The following day, I couldn’t put my weight on my toe because it was tender - a burning sensation, like a cut but I couldn’t see anything. But it was painful to touch. I took this photo today - about 2 days after I got the pedicure done, and my toe got MORE red and inflamed, and I can see some pus on the edge of my nail. I am pretty sure I got an infection, first time this has ever happened. I’m hoping that it will heal on its own and I won’t have to go to the emergency room or doctor to resolve this.. I’m giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 because when I called the place to tell them about my infection, they seemed truly apologetic, and didn’t just brush it off. I hope that they can make sure that their equipments are clean and that their work is gentle in the future so no one gets injured again.

Kathina M. Ladies leave the 20$$ nail salons and treat yourself how you should be treated!!! The technicians are PHENOMENAL! Im completely in love and thoroughly impressed. They are so detailed and take their time to cater to your specific needs. Did I also mention super super super clean. I am a fan and thoroughly grateful for my experience! Update: if youre into acrylic, please do NOT get it done here. Those are my nails after a WEEK. My thumb nail broke off the night of the wedding. The next nail broke off by the next day and I wasnt doing anything strenuous. I was grabbing a box, it fell on my hand and the whole nail popped off. Pinky broke off by me scratching my scalp. These nails do not last and absolutely NOT worth 95$+ that they charge for a full set. Id stick to just the pedicures.

Lilith’s Studio I highly recommend the Milk & Honey Pedicure. Extremely lux experience. Michelle has amazing healing hands for the massage & is a highly skilled nail tech. Ambience was mellow even though it was packed for a Wed early afternoon. The whole vibe is very soothing. (Pay in cash & get a nice discount!)

Liselle F. Ask for Sunny if you go, she really took her time and got my cuticles and was very gentle. She took her time doing the gel mani and I would definitely recommend her and this salon in general. I go regularly but from now on I’m gonna ask for Sunny when I make my reservations. I loveeeee my nails!

Elisabeth JOSEPH Not a good experience. I don’t recommend. Inaccurate work, no hygiene. She did my nails in 20min and it was a mess, it was thick with air bubbles, gel all over my cuticules, it didn’t even last a week. Honestly I don’t know why I didn’t ask for my money back with extra refund for the pain and suffering.

Joanna Ventour My nail tech was so rough putting on my gel extensions that my fingers ached when I left. An hour after leaving the salon one of my nails broke off. I spent over an hour at home with my own nail file re-shaping them because they were lumpy and not shaped properly. The color (a black design) also wasn’t fully opaque in some areas because she only did one pass with the color. The gel was so think under the bottom of the nail that I got home and used a blade to free it up so it was less uncomfortable. Design looks nothing like the photo I showed her - she didn’t even try. I will never be going there again. Money down the drain. Picture w/ yellow tips is after I fixed them myself and repainted them

Kristín Helga Magnúsdóttir We went 5 girls together and the quality varied a lot. Mine polish was a lot outside of the nail. But my friends got a much better treatment. Also they advertise mani+pedi for $25 - but then she asked me whether I wanted a coat to strength (I thought she was talking about top coat) - but apparently she was asking if I wanted gel and didn’t mention anything about the extra price. So it was $44 for the mani+pedi. But the place is okay.

Melanie V Good for the price. I typically get a gel pedicure. I’m a simple girl, shape my toes decently and paint them well. I really liked the way the tech shaped my nails, the painting itself was fine. Nothing to write home about. My main issue is they don’t carry a wide selection of gel colors. I didn’t want white, I wanted something colorful but didn’t like the options. Despite the paint “errors” and lack of gel colors, I will come back. Most of the techs were friendly and I did enjoy the shaping. I’ll just bring my own gel color.

jo wyatt I got a Gel X manicure here on NYE and I have been so impressed. Not only was the finish beautiful, but the nails stayed on for four weeks with NO lift. I’m not delicate with my hands after a manicure, so I have truly been blown away with this result. I will absolutely be back for a new set soon.

Taylor Barber This is my go to spot in Crown Heights! I’ve always had a great experience here and always left satisfied with their job. Prices are comparable to others that I’ve been to in Brooklyn. My favorite is the relaxation pedicure. I always get a great massage with that service. Also special shout out to Fiona, she rules but so does everyone else there! I also want to note that it doesn’t smell like a nail salon which I really appreciate because I find that to be overbearing in other establishments.
5 /5
Rachael Smith Not great experiences here. I asked for a french tip & dip powder. I realize now instead of picking a light under color, they just used the base coat more than once. So now you can see my actual nail tip come through since the base is translucent. Its not even been 2 weeks and ill need to go get them redone! From the lumpiness of my nails, i also dont feel like they were leveled out properly. Also, had to ASK for my cuticles to be done. When youre paying over $70, the expectation is youre getting a full manicure!

Mërgime Kajtazi Absolutely awful. I went there and the person that works there “was busy” but they kept saying she is on her way. A guy who had probably never touched nail polish in his life tried to give me a pedicure and manicure and left them both in half because after spending 2 hours there I just had to leave. That’s when she finally came and charged me $30 for the atrocious pedicure I got and then after leaving I saw my card was actually charged for $38. These are the photos I took 10 minutes after I left.

Lourdes Vazquez Wonderful experience. I tried this nail shop after my mom recommended to me. The mani and pedi came out great. For the mani, they did special nail art and stuck on a flower which I loved! They are also a very clean nail salon, and the place did not smell at all of chemicals. Was not rushed. Enjoyed watching top Chef in Spanish while getting my nails done. Thank you for taking care of my sensitive nails.

Lauren Chao I am so disappointed. My birthday is tomorrow and I’ve been searching for a nearby nail salon. The nail salon charges $26 for a manicure/pedicure. I asked for designs since I’m celebrating my birthday, they’re $2 each. I’m giving 1 star because Lisa cut FOUR of my fingers, not just one but FOUR. The acetone burned on one of my fingers. I just came home and my thumb is still bleeding as I put pressure on it. I regret leaving a $5 tip. I try to support small businesses, especially Asian businesses but cutting four of my fingers is unacceptable.

Saniyah Jones STAFF IS VERY RUDE ESPECIALLY ANNA. work is sub par. The shop is unsanitary and run down. Even tried to force me to tip. I asked for an extra coat of polish for my toes. Lisa caught an attitude as if she didn’t want to do it. I was asked to pay before my service was finished almost as if they knew I was unhappy with my pedicure. tools also didn’t appear to be sterilized. I didn’t even get my manicure because of how unsanitary the shop looked. I even asked for plastic wrap to persevere my polished (horribly) toes and anna yelled at me that i should just leave. As i left she slammed the door and locked it behind me. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!

A. Z. I went inside for a pedicure on a Sunday afternoon. There were two technicians and just one client, therefore,I was serviced right away. The place is really dingy and outdated, but it has cheap prices. I only went here because I was too tired to go to the fancy salons on Cortelyou Rd. After The NY Times article that came out a few years ago about hygiene at all NYC nail salons, I thought these owners learned their lesson. This salon looks like it’s from the 90’s and you can tell the building landlord doesn’t fix anything for them. The nail technician worked super fast! And since I didn’t want a color, I was finished in about 10 minutes - the fastest ever. The tools don’t look clean and I was afraid that I’d catch a fungus. Thankfully a few months later, I can say I didn’t catch anything LOL

Jessie Wu Great atmosphere and decor. Very clean. Nice smelling products. So I had to use a nail clipper to even them out

Brittany B Went here a few weeks ago to get a gel manicure. It was clean and nicely decorated. It was super busy due to Valentine’s Day. The manicure turned out nice initially, but started chipping a few days later. I was told it was supposed to last 2 weeks so was disappointed.

Ina Karanxha I love Nazareth’s work! She is so careful and thorough, however, the gel manicure I got started peeling off within the first 7 days, having peeled completely off by the 10th day. Because I didn’t call within those 7 days and I called 3 days later, they did not honor a free redo or a discount. I believe the quality of the nail polish is to blame here rather than my technician’s technique and I am disappointed with the company’s refusal to compensate. This is a picture of my nails after I got them done and then 10 days later when all the polish peeled off.

Jenny does my pedicures and she’s excellent! I do my manicures and pedicures here regularly like clockwork. Definitely recommend.

Rebecca H So I went to this salon off of a review that said Lilly was so good. Lilly was nice, but she did my nails the way she wanted, but I am the customer. When I told her what I wanted, she did it, but with hesitation. I also had a pedicure, I think her name was Oko. I wish I had never got the pedicure. She didn’t trim my toenails down as much as I asked and pedicures are supposed to be soothing and she had me stressed. I would give Lilly a 2.5 and Oko a 0. Since they don’t have 2.5, overall rating is 2. Also, I am fluent in their language and a few other languages and I would NEVER go back from a few comments they said about me or other customers in the shop. Very disrespectful.

amanda beauchamp Wanted try this spot out as a Latina supporting a Latin business and their great reviews. Well I must’ve been a fluke as I had a terrible experience. I came in for a dip powder manicure and after 2hours and 45 min, I left with my cuticles cut up and my nails filed raw. The color opacity is not consistent and glitter was filed out in certain places. I’ve never had my nails this over drilled and filed raw. These are my birthday nails and I just wanted cry. People can definitely get this level of work for cheaper and come out better. *they did offer to fix one of my nails that has scratches in the top coat, but at that point I just wanted to leave.
